Nature's Market is a family run business that we opened in Douglas, MI on May 8th 1987.  Our parents, Leo and Mary Kelly, became interested in alternative health care modalities after our mother Mary experienced several health issues (in the late 70's ??) and a good friend of the family suggested she change her diet to incorporate unprocessed foods and organic vegetables and fruits.  Our family came up with the concept of a natural foods store after they realized how difficult it was to obtain such foods in the local community at that time.  Along with three of their daughters, Mary Jo Duffey, Diane Slayer, and Theresa Hoerig, the family opened the original store.  After four years when the demand for natural products exceeded the space of the Douglas store, we moved to Holland, MI where it has expanded three times since. In 1998 Leo & Mary retired to enjoy their golden years and then Mary Jo retired in October of 2005. As long held Kelly family values of sustainability, recycling, whole foods and being "green" were becoming increasingly popular, Diane & Theresa expanded the store to its current size in January 2008 form 2700sq ft. to 4300 sq ft. This expansion has allowed Nature's Market to offer an increased variety of frozen & refrigeration products that includes organic eggs, milk and meats from local farmers; a large all organic produce section featuring local produce when available; new bulk bins with grains, beans, granolas, dried fruits, snacks, nuts and seeds (80% of the bulk is organic); personal care with several name brand organic companies, toxic chemical free make-up lines; essential plant oils; a large gluten-free and allergen-free section.
